These suspended fabric constructions were partially made during a residency at 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, South Carolina. After returning to Louisiana, the interior surfaces and center protrusions were refined. The work was motivated by the function of clothing and accessories as signifiers of social identity. The apparel items (apron, cravat, garter belt, codpiece, doublet and corset) are commonly found in the history of costume. Again, these pieces are a departure from the more nonrepresentational organic forms I had been making. The six forms were made from unique hybrid designs. The contrasts and similarities within each form and between the selected materials are intended to suggest difference and sameness.
